Psychological Assessment & Treatment

Free Telephone Consultation

To get started, a free telephone consultation is offered. This entails a brief discussion about your needs and what you may be looking for in terms of treatment or assessment. This will provide you with the opportunity to ask questions about me and the nature of services provided, so that you may have the necessary information required to make an informed decision about moving forward together.

TREATMENT

Intake Assessment

An intake assessment is the initial session for clients seeking therapy. The purpose of this meeting is to get to know you and to determine your needs and personal goals for therapy. During the intake assessment, you will be asked questions about your presenting concerns, background history, and current situation. By the end of the session you will be provided with initial impressions and treatment recommendations.

A treatment plan will be collaboratively developed, which will include discussion about what you want to work on, frequency of sessions, length of treatment, and type of treatment approach that will be used to address your concerns. The intake assessment also provides an opportunity to determine suitability of fit. In the event that your needs would be better met in a different treatment setting, appropriate referral options will be discussed and provided.

Therapy Sessions

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Time together will be focused on addressing your concerns and helping you develop new ways of understanding your problems. We will build upon your strengths and help you develop coping strategies/skills using evidence-based approaches to improve your well-being.

You will be encouraged to practice the skills and strategies between sessions to increase your confidence and sense of self-mastery. We will also assess progress periodically and revisit and revise goals as necessary to ensure that your therapy is moving in the direction that you desire.

What is Psychological Assessment?

A comprehensive psychological assessment is a detailed mental health evaluation designed to better understand emotional, behavioural, or cognitive difficulties. This process typically includes a clinical interview along with the administration of standardized, evidence-based tools. In Ontario, individuals often seek psychological assessments to clarify mental health diagnoses such as depression, PTSD, or anxiety disorders, support treatment planning, or request accommodations in academic or occupational settings.

The length of the psychological evaluation can vary—typically lasting three or more hours—based on the specific referral question. Assessments are usually completed in one or two sessions. After the evaluation, results from the interview and test measures are carefully analyzed and compiled into a detailed report. This report will outline any diagnoses (if applicable), along with treatment recommendations and strategies for support. A feedback session is scheduled to review the findings, during which clients receive their report and have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss next steps.

In Ontario, psychological assessments play a crucial role in timely diagnosis, treatment planning, and access to necessary supports. To meet these needs efficiently, appointments for assessment and treatment are prioritized, with completed reports and feedback typically provided within four to six weeks of the initial assessment date.
