Therapy for Individuals & Couples
We work with adults and couples facing a wide range of emotional and psychological concerns. Each treatment plan is tailored — no templates, no one-size-fits-all strategies.
Individual therapy offers a private space to explore challenges such as:
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Depression and low mood
- Trauma and PTSD
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Life transitions, grief, and burnout
- Self-esteem and identity concerns
Our psychologists help clients in Mississauga develop practical coping strategies while addressing deeper emotional patterns that keep them stuck.

Couples Therapy
Relationships can feel overwhelming when communication breaks down or trust is strained. Our couples therapy supports partners who are experiencing:
- Frequent conflict or emotional distance
- Communication difficulties
- Trust issues or betrayal
- Life changes affecting the relationship
- Reconnection after prolonged stress
We help couples understand relational dynamics, strengthen communication, and rebuild emotional safety in a respectful, non-judgmental environment.

Psychological Assessments & Testing Mississauga
One of the distinct advantages of visiting a Psychologist is access to formal diagnostic assessments. These psychological assessments are critical for understanding how a person’s brain works and securing necessary accommodations at school or work. We offer:
- Psychoeducational Assessments: These evaluate cognitive abilities and academic achievement to identify Learning Disabilities (such as Dyslexia or Dyscalculia) or Intellectual Disabilities.
- ADHD Assessments: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder often goes undiagnosed in adults and girls. We provide thorough testing to confirm a diagnosis and open the door to effective treatment.
Our Therapeutic Approach: Science Meets Empathy
At Town Psychological Services, we pride ourselves on being evidence-based. This means the strategies we use are backed by clinical research and have been proven effective. However, we also know that therapy is an art. We tailor these modalities to fit your unique personality.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, DBT is incredibly effective for anyone who feels emotions very intensely. It focuses on four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is often the first line of defense against anxiety and depression. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. By identifying negative thought patterns (e.g., “I’m not good enough”), we can change how you feel and act. It is practical, structured, and skills-focused
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Emotions tell us what is important. EFT helps you process painful emotions rather than suppressing them, leading to true emotional transformation. This is particularly powerful in couples work and trauma recovery.
EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based approach used to treat trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and distressing life experiences. It helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or stuck. Through guided bilateral stimulation,

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a psychologist?
No, a referral is not legally required to see a Psychologist or Psychotherapist in private practice. You can book directly with us. However, please check your specific insurance policy, as some insurance companies require a doctor’s note for reimbursement purposes.
Are your services covered by OHIP?
In Ontario, private psychological services are not covered by OHIP. However, most residents in Mississauga have coverage through extended health benefits (provided by employers) or student health plans. We provide the detailed receipts required for you to submit your claim.
What is the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychotherapist?
While both provide therapy, there are differences in training and scope. A Psychologist typically holds a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) and is authorized to diagnose mental health conditions and conduct psychological testing. A Psychotherapist holds a master’s degree and focuses primarily on the “talk therapy” aspect of treatment. Read full post here.
Do you offer direct billing to insurance companies?
This depends on your specific insurance provider and the therapist you are seeing. Some plans allow for direct billing, while others require you to pay upfront and submit for reimbursement. Please contact our admin team with your policy details, and we can clarify this for you.
How long does a typical therapy session last?
A standard clinical hour is 50 minutes of face-to-face (or video) time with the client. The remaining 10 minutes of the hour are used by the clinician for documenting notes and planning for your next session.
Can you diagnose ADHD or Learning Disabilities?
Yes. Our Psychologists and Psychological Associates are qualified to conduct the formal assessments required to diagnose ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental conditions in adults.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Yes, we understand that 9-to-5 appointments don’t work for everyone. Many of our therapists offer evening and weekend availability to accommodate work and school schedules.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Research consistently shows that for most mental health concerns (like anxiety, depression, and stress), virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. The most important factor is the connection you feel with your therapist, regardless of the medium.
What happens if I don't click with my therapist?
This is completely normal and okay. Therapy relies on a strong relationship. If you feel the fit isn’t right after a session or two, please let us know. We won’t be offended. We can help transfer you to another clinician on our team who might be a better match.
How much does a Psychologist in Mississauga cost?
Fees vary depending on the practitioner’s level of training (e.g., Psychologist vs. Psychotherapist). Generally, rates adhere to the guidelines set by the Ontario Psychological Association. Please contact our office for our current fee schedule.
